It’s Finally Spring! What you need to know for a healthy season of renewal!

I don’t know about you but this has been a loooooong winter! (We got our last 18 inch snowstorm at the end of May!) I do believe it is time to take a breath and regroup for spring. Here are some of my tips for a healthy season.

  1. No Herbicides or Pesticides ever! There are many options to the toxic chemicals that harm every living thing. We use essential oils like Rose/Geranium for tick and flea repellent, Lemon Balm, Lemongrass, Idaho Tansy, Eucalyptus, Citronella, Repel Aroma, Purification, Clove, Lavender, Basil, Rosemary,. Put 5 drops Lavender, 5 drops lemongrass, 5 drops of Peppermint, and one drop of Thyme into one cup of water in a spray bottle. OR try Clove lemon and orange OR 5 drops of Lemon and 5 drops of Purification in a 2 0z spray bottle and mist on your skin and clothing. All of these work for many people. Keep experimenting if one doesn’t work as well for you, Neem works for many people also! Our bodies have different chemical components that attract or repel certain insects. OILS Work, so keep trying to find your combination! We owe it to the planet and our kids to NOT go the easy route with Deet. (Known for it’s cancer causing and Endo disrupting properties)
  2. Natural sunscreen, Helichrysum and Tamanu oil used by the Polynesians for centuries. Zinc Oxide is an excellent NON toxic sunscreen and when mixed with your healthy lotions it isn’t so white.
  3. Spring and Summer drinks are one of the greatest things about warm temperatures. It’s always important to stay hydrated and one of my favorite ways to share something special with guests, is by adding a little lavender or lemon into anything!  Here is a lovely cocktail for summer from our home to yours! Raspberry, Cucumber and Mint Smash 1 cup of raspberries, 1/4 cucumber thinly sliced, 2 Tbsp of fresh mint leaves and sprigs, 1/4 c of organic sugar , 3 0z lemon juice, 8 oz of Gin or Vodka, 12-14oz cold seltzer. Crush the Raspberries into a pitcher, add the sugar, the mint and the cucumber and mash them add lemon juice and gin and stir until sugar dissolves. Add the seltzer to the pitcher and gently stir. Serve with ice and fresh whole raspberries, sprig of mint. Enjoy!!!
